For comfort and a cozy feel wool is one the most commonly used fibers for rugs also one of the most durable. Understanding your tufted rug can help with longevity. Tufted rugs are different than woven rugs, let’s start by understanding their construction. Tufted rugs are created with a tool called tufting gun that crates a loop, the back of the rug is then glued with latex which is then covered by a cloth material. Many manufacturers use fillers in latex which will weaken the glue and can lead to pre-mature cracking and powdering. During the contruction stencils are used to mark the rug as a guide for patterns that are followed by the person using the tufting gun. These stencil marks can sometimes cause color bleeding through the rug fibers
with any spills or even cleaning. Unfortunately, there’s no way we can test for these issues until there’s a problem, this is a manufacturing issue. One great thing about tufted rugs is that they are a quick way to make rugs which makes them very affordable. The affordability does come with a cost. The backing only last 3-7 years depending on several factors care and where the rug was made. Sometimes these backings
can rot and create a odor issue which we cannot remove. Another common odor issue is pet urine it penetrates to the latex layer of the rug and most often we cannot remove, because the layer of latex doesn’t allow air under the rug to breathe in many cases causes mildew. That’s we we strongly encourage these rugs have a padding underneath which we can custom cut for you in facility. Once the latex layer on your rug has been destroyed, this will cause buckling to the rug and it will lose its shape. Now that you’ve learned about your tufted rug let us help you restore it.
